Abstract:
Demolished concrete elements are the main source of Waste Concrete Aggregates (WCA). Properties of WCA differ from fresh aggregates due to the cement paste attached to the surface of natural aggregates. Waste generation is increasing day by day due to demolition of small building to construct high rise building for the accommodation of increasing population. This huge amount of WCA can be used in road construction. With this view, study needed to evaluate the performance of bituminous mix with WCA. For comparison bituminous mix with fresh aggregates also studied. Engineering properties and Marshall Test properties were determined in the laboratory according to AASHTO standards. A definite design criterion for marshal method has also been followed. Test results indicate that the dense bituminous mixes with WCA are found a feasible option from the standpoint of stability, stiffness, deformations and void characteristics. According to test results, WCA can be used in bitumen mixes for pavement works.
