Any questions regarding the Expression of Interest (EoI) should also be addressed to him.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the review process (<strong>between January 29<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0and February 26<sup>th<\/sup>, 2021<\/strong>) additional information from the applicant may be required. A presentation to the selection committee may also be requested.\u00a0Proposed projects selected for further development\u00a0are anticipated to be announced on\u00a0<strong>February 26, 2021<\/strong>, after which a detailed project proposal must be written and submitted to the NRC\u2019s National Program Office (NPO) for an assessment of the project eligibility.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>January 29<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp; &#8211;<\/strong> Expressions of Interest due by 5pm (PST).&nbsp;<\/li><li><strong>February 26<sup>th&nbsp;<\/sup><\/strong>&#8211; Announcement of selected projects for consideration and initiation of Eligibility Assessment by the NRC\u2019s National Program Office.<\/li><li><strong>April 1<sup>st&nbsp;<\/sup><\/strong>&#8211; Funding envelope begins (funds distributed as per approval by the NRC\u2019s National Program Office).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-vivid-red-color\"><strong><u>Important Notes<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Selected projects at this stage<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>do not guarantee approval for funding. Final funding decisions are made after a full proposal has undergone the necessary review, due diligence and approval processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All submissions must be a collaborative project with an NRC researcher.&nbsp;&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Projects must align and broaden the impact of NRC\u2019s current enabling MASS research agenda.&nbsp;&nbsp;Each project must be collaborative between at least two organizations (NRC + collaborator).&nbsp;&nbsp;Projects can have several collaborating organizations.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Examples of NRC research currently underway:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Use of Machine Learning for Identification and Characterization of Vessel Operational Best Practices<\/li><li>Digital Twin Technology for Autonomous Operation in Harsh Environment<\/li><li>Prediction of Ice in the St. Lawrence Waterway Using Artificial Intelligence<\/li><li>Ship Situational Awareness in Ice<\/li><li>St. Lawrence Seaway Autonomous Marine Testbed<\/li><li>Extension of Driving Automation Research Activities at NRC to the Marine Use Case<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For more information on NRC MASS research, contact Fraser Winsor, Research and Technology Lead at&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:fraser.winsor@nrc-cnrc.gc.ca\">fraser.winsor@nrc-cnrc.gc.ca<\/a>&nbsp;or Martin Richard, Director of Research, at&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:martin.richard@nrc-cnrc.gc.ca\">martin.richard@nrc-cnrc.gc.ca<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, an overview of current and recent work on MASS by NRC researchers can be found\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/wp.mun.ca\/cismart\/2020-online-workshop-advancing-canadian-marine-technology\/\"><strong>here<\/strong><\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-vivid-red-color\"><strong><u>Process<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp.mun.ca\/cismart\/mission\/\">CISMaRT<\/a> plays an important role in enabling MASS in Canadian waters.&nbsp;&nbsp;This network was selected&nbsp;by the Canadian Forum for Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (CFMASS) Testing\/Research and Development subcommittee to act as a national network for research to enable MASS.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;The mutual interest of smarter, greener and safer links these two initiatives to the benefit of the maritime sector in Canada.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Submissions will be reviewed by a panel selected by CISMaRT&#8217;s Board of Directors.\u00a0\u00a0This panel will make recommendations to the Board of Directors, who will in turn provide recommendations to the NRC.<\/li><li>NRC\u2019s Ocean Program Director, the Research and Technology Leader for Intelligent Marine Assets, and Ocean, Coastal and River Engineering Research Centre&#8217;s Director of Research will decide on projects to be funded.<\/li><li>Selected projects will be invited to submit a full project proposal from which the funding contract will be negotiated.<\/li><li>All contract negotiation will go through NRC\u2019s National Program Office.<\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Important Dates Submissions are due by&nbsp;5pm (PST) January 29, 2021&nbsp;and should be emailed as a .PDF to Fraser Winsor fraser.winsor@nrc-cnrc.gc.ca.
