The main research focal areas include:<\/p>\n<p>(1). Experimental and modeling studies on transport and fate of persistent and emerging contaminants (e.g., persistent organic pollutants, nonpoint sources, endocrine disrupting chemicals);<br \/>\n(2). Development of enhanced in-situ remediation technologies and modeling and decision making tools for cleaning up petroleum contaminated sites;<br \/>\n(3). Integrated characterization-assessment-simulation-optimization methods for supporting decision making in the areas of watershed and water resources management, industrial and municipal solid waste treatment and management, and water and wastewater treatment;<br \/>\n(4). Development of high-efficient compact community-based water and wastewater treatment technologies;<br \/>\n(5). Development of new integrated modeling and treatment technologies for managing produced water and ballast water for offshore oil and gas industry;<br \/>\n(6). Investigation and modeling of water and solute transport in watershed and wetland systems especially in the north under changing climatic conditions; and<br \/>\n(7).
