Fang Fang received her B.Sc. in Chemistry from Minzu University of China in 2014 and got her Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from Peking University, China in 2025. She is now a postdoctoral fellow in the NRPOP Lab under the co-supervision of Dr. Baiyu (Helen) Zhang and Dr. Bing Chen in the NRPOP lab.
Her research focuses on the transport and fate of emerging contaminants and the associated microbial responses in harsh cold environments, including permafrost and deep sea.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Hongbing Dan is currently a Postdoctoral Fellow at Memorial University. He received dual bachelor’s degrees in Engineering and Arts from Anhui University of Science and Technology, China, in June 2018, and earned his Ph.D. in Environmental Science and Engineering from Shandong University, China, in June 2025. His previous research focused primarily on wastewater treatment, including adsorption, Fenton-like oxidation, and solar-driven evaporation; oil–water interfacial chemistry, including emulsion separation and Pickering emulsion catalysis; and the design and fabrication of superwetting surfaces, including super-hydrophobic, super-hydrophilic, and super-amphiphilic surfaces.<\/p>

His current research focuses on the environmental fate, transport, and transformation of persistent and emerging organic contaminants in cold regions, with particular emphasis on contaminant behavior and transformation processes under cryospheric conditions.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Masoumeh Bavadi obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree in Pure Chemistry from the University of Shahid Chamran, Ahvaz, Iran in 2006. She then got her Master of Science Degree in Organic Chemistry from Lorestan University, Lorestan, Iran in 2010. During this period, she synthesized novel hybrid- nanomaterials and investigated their biological activities and applications as nanocatalysts in chemical reactions. After that, she worked as research assistance at Persian Gulf University, Bushehr, Iran in 2012-2017. She focused on the synthesis of new types of chemicals for biological applications and performed molecular modelling studies.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Xing Song obtained his B.E. and M.Sc. degrees in environmental sciences from Jilin University, China in 2009 and 2012 respectively.<\/p>

In September 2013, he started pursuing his Ph.D degree in civil engineering under the supervision of Dr Baiyu (Helen), Zhang. At present, he works as a researcher in the NRPOP lab. His research focuses on the identification and characterization of spilled oil treated by chemical and bio-dispersant in marine environment.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>

Zheng Wang<\/strong><\/p>

Dr. Zheng Wang is an environmental engineering and science researcher who focuses on the fate, transport, and remediation of emerging pollutants in complex natural environments. He is currently a TCA postdoctoral researcher at Memorial University of Newfoundland. Dr. Wang earned his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Concordia University, where his doctoral research examined the occurrence, transport, and environmental impacts of oil spills and microplastics in coastal ecosystems. His research has resulted in 28 peer-reviewed publications, including highly cited papers in journals such as Environmental Science & Technology and Journal of Hazard Materials. His work on microplastic release and shoreline contamination has garnered significant recognition, with coverage in CTV News, Le Journal de Québec, The Canadian Press, and was cited by The New York Times.

Yuanmei Zhang is the Program Coordinator of the PEOPLE Network and the NSERC PEOPLE CREATE Program. She plays a key role in coordinating collaborations among researchers, students, industry partners, government agencies, and community organizations across Canada and internationally.<\/p>

As a Research Assistant and Master of Engineering graduate at Memorial University, her research focuses on marine plastic biodegradation and microplastics in marine environments. She has contributed to several peer-reviewed publications in leading environmental journals, including Eco-Environment & Health, Science of the Total Environment, and Environmental Science & Technology.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>
