Honestly, I was anxious when I first discovered that the library would remain closed for the year with limited access to computer labs. However, to my surprise, a Spring as unique as this has brought about a cocktail of emotions. The transition from failing miserably to making each day count has been one of a kind and something I will cherish for the rest of my life.
The heart wants what the heart wants, and now you can get it:
Usually, I would waste about two hours each day travelling by bus to and from campus. Cutting out commute is a blessing in disguise. Since I used to go to the university at least six days a week, now I get back two entire days in a month to do anything this heart desires, and that too without feeling guilty (2 hours x 6 days x 4 weeks = 48 hours!). Now, that’s something!
The latte-factor that once was:
One added advantage is that I eat healthy and have fresh home-made food every day, as there are fewer temptations to give in to. My expenses have also decreased, which is no surprise. Though I must admit, I miss Timmy’s French Vanilla a lot (for anyone who isn’t familiar, Timmy’s is Tim Hortons).
A cake comes with fat:
Yes, studying from home and working on my essay is difficult now since it is harder to be accountable and stick to one thing at a time, and that’s where discipline comes in. Without routine and self-motivated efforts, distractions are going to get you. It took some time to get used to the routine that I made, but it was worth it.
The best thing about this semester, however, is that I can enjoy the sun every (sunny :P) day! There is no pressure to do anything, as everything has become so flexible. The weather is such that it encourages you to hike and run. This Spring is undoubtedly one of a kind, and that’s why it’s so essential to make the best of it!
