Qinhong Cai

Ms. Cai has been a Ph.D Candidate in Civil Engineering under my supervision since January 2014 after she completed the M.Eng. program in my group. Her current research is focusing on developing novel methods and techniques for hyperproduction of biosurfactants and their applications to offshore and deep sea oil spill response. Qinhong has made significant achievements and some groundbreaking contributions which have filled some knowledge gaps and led to 18 refereed publications. She received the RDC Ocean Industries Student Research Award and TD Graduate Bursary for Environmental Study in in recognition of her academic merits and research excellence
She has been appointed by our Department as the leading RA in our Environmental laboratory to take care of the lab safety and operation and to coordinate research and teaching activities with very positive feedbacks from our students, staff and faculty. She was also appointed as a seasonal instructor to teach a core graduate course “ENGI9609 Environmental Risk Assessment” in winter 2015 and 2016. She has been actively involved in professional societies such as Canadian Society for Civil Engineering (CSCE).
