Ph.D., M.Sc., B.Sc.
Dr. Masoumeh Bavadi is a Postdoctoral Fellow in Civil Engineering at Memorial University of Newfoundland, where she is currently working under the supervision of Dr. Baiyu Zhang and Dr. Noori Saady. She joined Dr. Zhang’s research group at Memorial University in 2021 as a PhD student in Civil Engineering and continued her research at Memorial as a Postdoctoral Fellow after completing her PhD. Her research focuses on the development of bio-based dispersants for marine oil-spill response.
During her PhD studies, Dr. Bavadi conducted comprehensive investigations into the development and application of bio-based dispersants for marine oil-spill response. Her work advanced the understanding of oil behaviour in coastal waters, mitigation mechanisms, and management strategies. Her research resulted in the development of next-generation bioproducts with significant potential for commercialization and meaningful impact on communities. Her work bridges environmental engineering research with practical applications and supports the development of more sustainable approaches to marine oil-spill response.
Dr. Bavadi has established a strong and verifiable record of research achievement, with 11 peer-reviewed papers in environmental and chemical engineering journals, one patent, two book chapters, and presentations at six international conferences. She has been recognized as a Fellow of Graduate Studies at Memorial University of Newfoundland for academic excellence and research contributions and was the winner of the 2024 Engineering Poster Competition at Memorial University’s Annual Research Day. She was recently selected for the highly competitive Invention to Innovation (i2I) Commercialization Postdoc Program, supported by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) and Mitacs. Through the program, she aims to advance her research innovation toward commercialization and translate sustainable environmental technologies from laboratory research into practical solutions with environmental and societal impact.
