NRPOP Lab has hosted over 30 visiting researchers from research institutions and governmental/industrial organizations in Canada, USA, Norway, China, Singapore, Brazil, etc.
Summer 2025 & Summer 2026

Cui, Megan
Undergraduate Student
University of Toronto
Megan is currently pursuing an Honours Bachelor of Science at the University of Toronto, Canada, with majors in Chemistry and Statistics. She joined the lab as an NSERC Undergraduate Student Research Award (USRA) recipient in the summers of 2025 and 2026 at Memorial University, Canada. Under the supervision of Dr. Baiyu Helen Zhang and in collaboration with Xueyan Xu, a PhD student at NRPOP, Megan has contributed to research on environmental contaminants and microalgal carbon fixation. Her interdisciplinary training in chemistry and statistics provides a strong foundation for applying quantitative approaches to environmental research.

Kolle, Vilde
M.Sc. Student
Norwegian University of Life Sciences, Norway
vilde.kolle@nmbu.no
Vilde Kolle, a final-year Master’s student at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU), specializes in organic analytical chemistry. She spent six months in NRPOP Lab as a visiting research student, focusing on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in the Arctic.
Vilde was co-supervised by Dr. Roland Kallenborn (NMBU) and Dr. Bing Chen (Memorial University), and her research visit was part of the ArcSolution project, funded through the EU Horizon Programme. During her stay in Canada, Vilde analyzed environmental samples from the Yellowknife area of Arctic Canada, gaining advanced hands-on experience with HPLC-QqQ instrumentation. Her work involved optimizing analytical methods and conducting advanced data processing to improve the detection and quantification of emerging contaminants. Now back in Norway, she is applying these optimized methods to analyze samples collected from Svalbard.
