PhD, M.Eng., B.Eng.
Guihua Dong obtained her B.Eng. degree in Environmental Engineering at Shandong Jianzhu University in China. After that, she got her M.Eng. degree at Shandong University, China in 2018. In Jan. 2019, she started pursuing Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering supervised by D. Bing Chen, Dr. Baiyu (Helen) Zhang, and Dr. Stanislav R. Stoyanov at Memorial University.
Guihua’s research topic is mainly focused on developing various advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) enhancement methods (e.g., persulfate activation, microfluidics) to remove persistent and emerging contaminants (PAHs, bisphenols, etc.) from water and exploring the transport and fate of contaminants in the environment. She pays attention and explores the reaction mechanism, environmental factors, and degradation pathways of various emerging contaminants under the AOPs process. Currently, Guihua is working on the development of a variety of AOP-microreactor systems to achieve efficient removal of emerging contaminants.
Volunteers
Guihua is a student member of the Canadian Society for Civil Engineers (CSCE) since 2020. She has been actively volunteering in many activities, such as CSCE annual conferences, seminars, student competitions, and workshops at local and national levels. She has also actively contributed to some other events, such as PEOPLE Network 2019-2023 conferences.
