Dr. Baiyu (Helen) Zhang, a leading researcher at the Northern Region Persistent Organic Pollution Control (NRPOP) Laboratory, has been elected President of the Canadian Association on Water Quality (CAWQ) for the 2025–2027 term.
This prestigious appointment reflects Dr. Zhang’s outstanding contributions to environmental research and water quality innovation in Canada and beyond. As President, she will lead CAWQ’s efforts to strengthen its national and international collaborations, facilitate professional development, and advance cutting-edge research that supports the protection and sustainable management of water resources.
The CAWQ is a non-governmental, non-profit organization committed to the development and communication of knowledge to preserve and enhance water quality. The association plays a vital role in promoting research on the scientific, technological, legal, economic, and policy aspects of water pollution control and treatment.
In addition to its national role, the CAWQ also serves as the Canadian National Committee of the International Water Association (CNC/IWA). Through this connection, CAWQ members represent Canada on the Governing Board of the International Water Association, ensuring that Canadian interests and expertise contribute to global water initiatives.
